AFRICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY

We are assigned as missionaries serving at Africa Nazarene University. The campus of the University where we live is located just outside of the city of Nairobi. It is a beautiful campus which is in close proximity to the Nairobi National Park, a game reserve for wild animals.

Africa Nazarene University is the second largest Nazarene university in the world. We have over 3,500 students enrolled in 36 programmes of study. We have programmes like law, education, criminal justice, peace and conflict, business, media, information technology, counselling and psychology, and religion. We have bachelors, masters, and doctoral programmes.

Our student body is very diverse representing 27 different nationalities from all across Africa.
The graduates and alumni are scattered all around the continent of Africa. At the most recent face-to-face graduation ceremony, the over 900 graduates gathered in Honor’s Court. Honor’s Court honors all of the missions teams (Work and Witness) teams that came to build most of the buildings on campus.

Russ teaches in the religion department at three levels: undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels. He is the Dean of the School of Religion and Christian Ministry. He sometimes teaches larges classes. All students are required to attend chapel and take four courses which are important to their spiritual formation (OT, NT, Christian Beliefs and Christian Ethics). This can result in some rather large classes; in a recent class, Russ had 147 students.
